Lewis took a hiatus from touring in 1971 to open a music store in the San Fernando Valley and teach drumming. In 1974, he tried unsuccessfully to form a new band named Medicine with Billy Cowsill of the Cowsills. Lewis resumed travelling with different variations of the Playboys in the 1980s, with no other original members.
